Estimating Notes & Clarifications
  1. Cycle time basis. 7.20 hrs/pc reflects anatomical contour complexity of ZB-HS-450-STD: 186 measured characteristics, blended fin geometry requiring ball-nose tooling at fine stepover, and strict surface finish requirement (Ra ≤32 µin on all bone-contact surfaces). Feed rates conservative for ELI grade to protect billet investment (~$903/pc material).
  2. Material billet size. 2.5" × 3.5" × 14.0" required to capture full stem length including stock for Op 10 clamping. Significant material removal (~78% by weight) is inherent to anatomical hip stem geometry — billet size cannot be reduced without risking geometric feature accessibility on the proximal lateral bow.
  3. DFM finding — distal tip. DFM review (Line 1) identified the distal tip taper as best served by Swiss-type (Line 5) rather than CNC lathe, due to concentricity requirement (±0.001") with the 5-axis Op 10 datum. This adds setup cost but eliminates re-inspection risk from lathe runout.
  4. Lead time. 18 business days from PO receipt + approved drawing Rev. A. Includes passivation (3 days) within PMC lead time. PPAP submitted within 5 business days of first-article approval.
